How to read the Analytics Page

Last Updated: Sep 15, 2015 02:37PM EDT
Along with our analytics dashboard, our analytics page provides a wealth of information about the activity on your site. Viafoura’s analytics page is designed to give you an easy to read, graphical presentation of your community's performance through five key indicators of engagement.
In this article you will learn about the components that make up the analytics page:
  1. The date picker
  2. Analytics summary bar
  3. Comments link
  4. Social Shares link
  5. Users link
  6. Pages link
  7. Likes and Follows link
  8. Export section data

Please note: you must be logged in as a site administrator to perform these functions.

1. The date picker
This is located at the top of each analytics page. You can choose from a list of preset time frames, or select a custom date range and hit Submit. This date range will remain as you click through to each engagement indicator. If you select a date and want to return to the previous selection, prior to submitting the selection, you can do so with the Reset button.

2. Analytics Summary bar

This is the bar located at the top of each analytics page and shows the total number of new interactions made within each engagement indicator. This gives a quick, at a glance, view of how each engagement indicator is doing within the chosen time frame.

3. Comments link

Viafoura enables text, video and image comments. Under the Comments heading you will see the total number of new comments within the selected period. Hovering over each point on the graph will bring up a text box indicating how many of each type of comment was made. As each data point is a running total of the type of comment made, you may see a negative number on your graph. For example, a comment that was disabled and re-enabled the next day will result in a -1 to your disabled comment count.

4. Social Shares link
Social shares are shown with two graphs. A line graph provides the total number of new shares per day, by social network and a pie graph, which displays the percentage breakdown of social shares between Facebook, Twitter and Email.

5. Users link

Here you will see a graph for new users, and active users. New users are those who have newly registered to your site, and are grouped by login type. Each social login used will appear as its own line on the graph. All non-social logins will fall within the Viafoura line. Active commenters are a tally of those who have made comments on your site.

6. Pages link

This section lists the top ten pages on your site with the most activity. These pages are determined through a Viafoura algorithm which assess and showcase the articles with the most user-generated content. A point system based on weights given to each interaction type is used. This gives you an indication of how the top ten articles are preforming next to each other.

Please note, top pages are not affected by the date picker and only shows the top ten pages from the last 30 days starting from the current date.

7. Likes and Follows link
The number of likes and follows are also tracked on a daily basis for the time frame you've selected. Likes are based on the number of times the Like button has been used, and Follows are based on the number of articles and users who have been followed.

8. Export section data

Analysing data has also become easier with our new Export CSV button on the top right of a graph. This allows you to export the data presented on each graph into a CSV file, with one click. Once you've downloaded the files, you can sort the data to meet your needs.
